KOPER AND MAREZIGE VILLAGE

koperKoper is the main Slovenian port and the entrance to the inland of the Central Europe. It is located on the “top” of Istria. Koper was an island till the 19th century. Later the town and the island were connected with the mainland. Old town centre boasts with the rich architecture and cultural monuments. After sightseeing we will visit a small village Marezige, a few kms from Koper. There we will have a dinner in a local resturant.

TASTE OF COUNTRYSIDE

tonina hisa“Tonina hiša” is a special museum, which shows you old items illustrating the life of the Istria inhabitants in ancient times. After this visit we take you to the saltpans of Sečovlje, where salt has been produced for 700 years. You visit an Istrian village with its characteristic littoral houses, courtyards, stables and barns, and hospitable inhabitants. Afterwards you make a toast with a glass of home made brandy, visit a wine cellar, taste excellent wines of the region and have a dinner in a typical “cantina” at the tourist farm Krkavče.

PANORAMA CRUISE

piranPortorož, the “port of roses”, has been known as health resort from as early as 13th century. Today, it prides itself with elegant hotels, restaurants, boutiques, sport centres, beautiful surroundings and the highest of standards in tourism. Piran is a pleasant and attractive little town, squeezed in between the sea and the town walls which in the past protected the town from attacks coming in by land.Izola is an ancient fishing town built on a peninsola, of typical Mediterranean architecture, with narrow streets where you can find excellent taverns offering fish and local wines.

ISTRA TOUR CROATIA

istraOne of the most interesting places in Istria is Poreč, a small harbour with a turbulent past, lying on the western side of the Istrian peninsula. Poreč (Parentium) was inhabited 6000 years ago by the Illyrians, became later a Roman legionary fort. Today Poreč is one of the largest tourist centres of Croatia.Of special importance is the extraordinary 6th century Byzantine Basilica of Euphrasius with its magnificent mosaics. A journey takes us to the 10 km long Lim Fjord, the most beautiful natural wonder of Istria, where a short photo stop takes place. Afterwards we proceed to Rovinj, one of the most attractive spots on the Adriatic, renowned for its medieval architecture, labyrinth of streets, stairways and picturesque squares. Thirteen islands surround the town. On the way back we stop on a small farm to taste some good home-made brandies and different sorts of Istrian wine.

THE KARST REGION

stanjelIn the southwestern part of Slovenia stretches a region called Kras (Karst). It is a land of rare beauty, secret underground waters and caves, special climate and scarce vegetation. On this day you visit the Štanjel village with a typical Karst architecture, what is followed by a tasting of dried ham “pršut” and famous red wine Teran at the typical Karst farm.Afterwards you continue your journey to a picturesque village of Lipica, where for more than 400 years, beautiful white horses called Lipizzaners have been bred. A local guide takes the visitors on a guided tour through the stables pointing out different methods of stages of breeding and training of these noble animals.

VENICE BY THE CATAMARAN

veniceIt’s certainly one of the most attractive excursions from the Slovenian coast. In Izola you board the catamaran “Prince of Venice”. After 2.5 hours you arrive to Venice where an English-speaking guide leads you through the streets of the “floating city”, situated in a lagoon with 118 islets. You are shown San Marco’s square, the mighty Doge’s Palace, the Rialto Bridge, some other interesting sights of the city and visit a Murano glass factory workshop. After the guided city tour you have the rest of the afternoon free for individual enterprise. In late afternoon you board the catamaran again and return to the Slovenian coast, where your bus is waiting for you to take you back to your place of accommodation.

ŠKOCJAN CAVES

skocjanThe Škocjan caves have an extremely complex system of cave passages in a total length of 5.8 km. The caves are the biggest and best known natural phenomenon within the classical Karst area. With their depth of 163 meters, Velika dolina and Mala dolina charm every visitor. The finest view of both valleys with the natural bridge and the cave that separates them, can be had from the observation point. The caves, with an immense underground gorge and halls, are the beginning of the Škocjan underground system The caves probably have the biggest cave hall in Europe, measuring 12,000 square meters in cross section. The Reka river runs underground for almost 40 kms, to the sources of the Timav in the Gulf of Trieste (Italy).

LIPICA STUD FARM & POSTOJNA CAVES

A special feature is a show-program of star Lipizzaner studs performing. Another curiosity of the Karst is the caves and we will take you to the Slovenia's biggest cave system, the Postojna Caves. Sightseeing tours includes a ride by electric train, taking visitors into the world of drop stones and other cave formations.

GOLF EXCURSIONS

There are 8 golf courses in Slovenia. Bled golf course has the longest tradition; it was visited by players before WWII. A decade ago the new Lake Course with water hazards was added to the King’s Course overlooking the alpine peaks.

Other golf courses are available to golfers, such as Lipica, the cradle of white Lipizzaner horses which is also a starting point for exploring the Karst, in Arboretum Volčji Potok, with its attractive ancient park, in Mokrice sheltered by the picturesque castle and near the Terme Čatež, in Moravske Toplice in the picturesque Panonian landscape with thermal waters, in Ptuj, which attracts visitors with the tradition of the oldest Slovenian town, in Slovenske Konjice where the course is sheltered by vine growing hills, and Podčetrtek near the Olimja Health Resort.
