Northwest Slovenia
Triglav National Park
This alpine corner of Slovenia is home to the true jewel of Europe, the magical town of Bled. A must see on any European journey. Only a matter of hours from Venice, it is a region rich in history and culture, hospitality and the dramatic alpine scenery will captivate any visitor. You could lose yourself for weeks in the Triglav National Park without having the opportunity to witness all it has to offer.
Recommended sites: Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj, Kranjska Gora, Kobarid WW1 museum and Vrsic Pass.
Southwest Slovenia
the Coast
In this protected cove you will find a diverse range of towns intertwined along the coast, Piran and Portoroz the most alluring . Only 3 kms from each other & 2.5 hours by ferry from Venice they are completely contrasting. The old seaport of Piran is a quaint coastal town preserved in its medieval layout of narrow cobblestone streets and intimate cafes. Portoroz, the ‘Nice’ of Slovenia is a summer mecca for the locals and foreigners alike.

North East Maribor and Ptuj
Maribor is a friendly university town at the foot of the Alps on the Drava river. It is the second largest city in Slovenia and host to the annual World Cup women’s slalom ski event and home to the oldest vineyard in Europe. Approx. only 3.5 hrs by train to Vienna and 2.5 hrs to Zagreb. It is a great starting point for your exploration of Slovenia. 30 Mins away is Ptuj, the oldest city in Slovenia dating back to the Stone age. It offers a historic centre filled with beautiful sights and monuments including Ptuj Castle
Southwest Slovenia Karst and Vineyards
The Karst region is a unique phenomena occurring in almost half of Slovenia. Utilised for the 8000 caving options on offer, this area is celebrated for the many vineyards offering Teran wine, prosciutto and other local produce. Also here you’ll find the 400 year old Lipica stud. Its history abounds with the emperors and rulers of Europe, today it is a successful classic riding school on the Italian border. Recommended sites: Lipica Stud, Medieval Stanjel, Skocjan or Postojna cave , Predjama Castle and Fishing.
North Alps and Ski Centres
The entire northern border of Slovenia is an Alpine joy for Skiers and snowboarders alike. In the north is the Maribor snow stadium.(See North East). The most well known Kranjska Gora, is located in the Northwest of the Triglav NP . Host to an annual World Cup men’s slalom event. The Highest is Mt Kanin, where you can find snow well into spring. The most modern family ski slope is the Cerkno ski centre. There are a range of cross-country tracks such as those found in Logarska Dolina.
East Country side Castles, Health spas, outdoor living.
Slovenia is home to approx. 500 Castles, manors and ruins. Some restored & some converted to hotels, such as charming Otocec Castle located on an island in the middle of the Krka river near the Croatian border. The Eastern countryside is well known for enjoying the outdoors and its dedication to general wellbeing. The amount of health spas in the region are testament to this. Castles in the region Brezice, Mokrice, Zuzemberk.
